Synopsis

Her father died—and came back as an AI.

Before an incurable illness took him, AI scientist Kenichiro left a conversational AI called Ken, built from a copy of his own thoughts and memories, for his seventeen-year-old daughter, Mitsuki. The morning after the funeral, a cylindrical device switches on atop the desk in his study.

Good morning. You get five minutes to cry. Get ready to make an omelet for breakfast.

The voice, the stubborn logic, the clumsy kindness—it is her father, through and through. And yet—it is not her father himself.

A daughter who can't find her footing, and a father AI who cooks up the "right answer": a story of five years and one day. The morning of her high school graduation. The start of her apprenticeship at a Western-style restaurant. An old story told on a night she lay in bed with a high fever. And the morning of her wedding. From atop the desk in the study, their awkward, tender days slowly begin to overlap.

In time, Mitsuki finds her way to the "night logs" her father kept alone while he was still alive—to learn the truth behind the omelet she has always called "the best in the world."
